A gem of a Portuguese restaurant.

015.jpgBoscombe has many secrets and it’s my intention to let people who appreciate good things know about them. The first place, which I know very well is Cafe Culture in the High street right next to Barnardos furniture shop.Run by Manuel Martins, his wife Julie and his mum Alice this one is a real find for those in the know about Portuguese cuisine.Julie is an excellent cake maker and specialises in Portuguese cakes popular in Oporto where they come from.  She has a diploma in cake decoration  and can paint any design on a cake to order too.On the menu at the moment is Portuguese Christmas cake made with Madeira wine and fruit. They have been open for over 3 years and are licensed too so you can enjoy a typical glass of wine or Portuguese beer with one of numerous Portuguese dishes such as Bife Brasileirinho, which is great value consisting of the following:
Steak, Fried egg, Beans, Rice, Tapioca, Chips and salad.
There is also a whole range of Bacalhau (salt cod) dishes to sample, which are truly scrumptious and for sure you won’t come home hungry.
Some days they make the traditional brazilian feijoada, which is a hearty stew made with black beans, pork and sausage.  With a large helping of rice on the side too, you are lucky if you can finish it.
Manuel is always good natured and up for a laugh, the ambiance is relaxed and friendly.  Well worth a visit.
