New ‘Springbourne Gardens’ opens on Saturday

Tomorrow (Saturday 18 March) sees the opening of the brand new park and community garden in Springbourne, named ‘Springbourne Gardens’.

The official opening of Springbourne Gardens will take place at 10am on Saturday. The public will be able to see an artist at work installing the finishing touches to the park, and there will be storytelling and poetry reading, a children’s quiz, and the burying of a time capsule organised by a local community group.

Springbourne Gardens, created by Bournemouth Borough Council with design input from local children, will provide a much needed recreational space for friends and families to relax and socialise, and includes a junior play space with a ‘learning or story area’ and a community garden.

Councillor Rod Cooper, Cabinet Member for Economy, Leisure and Tourism, said: “There were virtually no play facilities in the area previously, so the new Springbourne Gardens makes a fantastic addition to the area.I think it is great that local children have had the opportunity to help design and choose their own play facilities I am sure the park will be well-used by local families for many years to come."

The project has cost £146,000, funded by a combination of housing developer contributions, play and arts grant contributions and Local Improvement Funds pledged by local ward councillors.
